A Perfect Proposition and An Edible Entry!

Recently I have been highly involved with Macra Na Feirme. Macra Na Feirme is an enigma to many people in Ireland but is a very important aspect of many other people's lives in Ireland. What is Macra Na Feirme? Is it just for Farmers? I have recently been told by people that they didn't know I was a farmer. I say that I'm not and they reply with "But you are in Macra!!". Therein emphasising how little is known about the organisation.

Macra at it's core is an organisation for young people. A place where young people can come together, meet other young people and engage in all sorts of activities that may take to their liking. When I was younger, in my teens, I was a member of a youth group in Dunkerrin called Forige. Forige is a youth organisation for teenagers. In Dunkerrin at the time we had a very strong Forige club and we met up every Saturday night after mass. It was the done thing at the time and a very good social outlet. Around that time I would have heard about Macra Na Feirme. There was a Dunkerrin Macra club called "The Arches" and I knew some of the older young people of the parish we're involved in it. However I also firmly believed that it was an organisation for farming people only. How wrong I was.

Tangent! Wishing to successfully upgrade the outdated design of my own site. Thoughts on the overall look of https://www.alpineinspectiongroup.com? Undoubtedly a wonderful property & home inspections service in New Jersey whenever required within the NEW JERSEY areas. Send your feedback. With thanks!

So for many years after that Macra didn't cross my mind. I have been involved with my local GAA Club since I was little and that has always been a fairly central part of my life. A lot of my friends are the lads whom I have grown up hurling with since primary school so our nights out usually revolved around hurling matches, training, etc. Meeting new people is something I love to do and this was one aspect of college that I really enjoyed. However in the working world and the GAA world it is not as easy to meet new people. The GAA world is quite small when you look at it in the greater scheme if things. You meet the same people every week, every year even. Not necessarily a bad thing but in the words of Sheryl Crow, "a change will do you good".

My sister Deirdre joined Macra about two years ago now and recommended to me at the time that I also join. I am usually willing to chance anything but was a little reluctant at first. However coming up to Christmas that year I was getting bored of the usually nights out around that generally all ended up very similar. My sister told me that she and her boyfriend had tickets to a Macra New Years Eve Ball in Cahir, Co Tipperary. I said I'd chance tagging along. It would be different at least.

I have to say from the very moment we arrived in Cahir, it felt good. The atmosphere was friendly and I was up for a right session. I put on the suit and off we went to the "cheese and wine reception" ha. Everyone was friendly and I gradually began to get chatting to different people. The rest of the night included a meal, band and disco. Even a brush dance at one stage. It was a great night and at 6am I was still in the resident's bar singing songs with people I had never met before. One of whom is a good mate now.

That was my first introduction to Macra na Feirme. After that I decided to tag along to the odd club meeting with my sister. She was in Nenagh Macra. At this time there was only a handful of members. I remember thinking that maybe this wasn't for me. I continued to go to the odd meeting anyway and soon enough an Easter ball was held in Limerick. I decided to go. There was a couple of us from Nenagh Macra there this time and when I got there I met a couple of people that I had met in Cahir. This night turned out even better. We ended up sitting with all of the Offaly Macra members who we're at the ball. This bunch we're mighty craic it was a great night. To top off the night I was announced best dressed man. To this day, I do not know how that happened.

Many thanks people!
